Why Camping With Kids Is Fun
by: Stuart Goodson
Children and even grown-ups often recall and cherish memories from camping trips that they went on with friends and family. Children of working parents especially find this an ideal opportunity to spend quality time with their parents who otherwise with hectic city lives rarely get the opportunity to interact and bond with their children. Camping with kids offers the parents the chance to teach their kids something new and at the same time get them to enjoy other types of entertainment like fishing, nature walks and bird watching. They could even show them forms of nature that the kids would have only heard of or seen in videos or books.

Camping with kids can be quite challenging as well. When the restrictive nature of urban homes is not able to contain the effervescence of childhood, imagine what letting them loose in the great outdoors can do to them. Before you start out, ensure you have a set of rules framed and explained and make sure the kids follow them. If you have an older child, make them responsible for the younger ones. It will not just give them a sense of authority and independence but they might even do a pretty good job in controlling the younger ones. With open locations and camping grounds near water bodies, establish boundaries so your children do not stroll out unaccompanied. Reach the site early so the children have sufficient time to familiarize themselves with the surroundings.

When camping with kids safety is of utmost importance. It is advisable that you talk to them before you start from home and brief them on what to expect, what to do and what not to do. Allow them to carry useful toys like whistles and hand held radios. They might come in handy. When you buy your camping gear ensure you pick up things as per the children's requirements such as sleeping bags of the right size. Bigger department stores also offer camping gear for children, which may not really be functional, but children will enjoy doing things like setting up their own tents. They might even pitch in and do their bit while you set up camp.

Camping with kids has been described by many who have tried it, to be an extremely fulfilling, refreshing and enjoyable experience if it is planned and organized well. It gives children the opportunity to appreciate and understand the importance of the different aspects of nature, helps them build confidence when they learn to do things on their own without the help of fancy gadgets and the luxury that they have been used to so far.

Ask any little boy or girl who has gone camping with parents what they enjoyed the most and watch that twinkle in their eyes as they recall how they helped their Dad catch some fish and how they helped their Mom build a fire and cook it. Just ensure you have all that you may need while camping with kids, maybe a little more just to be on the safer side and you are sure to have a wonderful and memorable camping trip that would be cherished forever.
