Facial Lasers - A Fad Or Hope For Those Not Willing To Undergo Plastic Specialist Surgery?
by: Dr NBM

Facial lasers and their use is gaining rapid popularity due to a number of reasons. Not everyone is willing to go under the knife and this is especially so for minor changes or superficial changes. Downtime or the period of time which is required for recovery and recuperation is also important nowadays. Not many are willing to undergo long periods of time to be on leave which might be not practical for a variety of reasons be it work related or even to avoid people speculating that he or she had undergone plastic surgery especially so if he or she comes back looking "different". Pain is another limiting factor and even with the advent of "painless" surgery and more effective painkillers, pain is still a bane in surgery. And like it or not or argue if you must, in my opinion a surgical procedure has a higher chance of pain experience compared to a non surgical procedure. Post operative experience is another factor and non surgical procedures are more pleasing to the patient due to less downtime and less postoperative swelling and pain though the rare contrarian cases do arise every now and then. As they say, the human body is an amazing vehicle and try as we may to understand it, we may not be able to understand it fully due to its complexities beyond physicalities.

The advance in medical technologies and research has made it possible over the years to perform effective aesthetic procedures without the need for the conventional knife. Lasers started off as an instrument for use in the military but thankfully so over the years it has been incorporated into medicine and surgery and it can be used nowadays as an instrument which is being used in increasing numbers in the medical field and especially so in the field of aesthetics, plastic and reconstructive surgery. Though it may seem ludicrous to some that the application of lasers or therapeutic light may actually yield results it is backed by scientific basis and research. The details of facial lasers can be read in the website and links located at the foot of this article.

Take the example of a made up patient called Mary Anne to illustrate the uses of facial lasers. Mary Anne has facial blemishes and she has been wanting to remove them for years. She goes to an aesthetic surgeon and was recommended the use of facial lasers to remove them. The procedure is simple, straightforward and painless and requires short visits over a period of time which she can accommodate in between lunch breaks. And the beauty of it is she will not undergo the trauma of undergoing conventional surgery. She will also not require any medical leave or extended periods of rest! And in the hectic and busy schedule of today's world, that is a definite plus point that cannot be ignored. How about Peter who wants to get rid of a tattoo which he regretted getting and now desperately wants removed? He can opt for conventional surgery to get it removed but with facial lasers, he can also have the option of having it lasered off. On top of that, he can also get laser treatment to get rid of his acne scars too!

Facial lasers can also be used to remove warts among other uses. They can also be used in the treatment of visible veins and many more. More details can be found in the links at the bottom of the article. The use of facial lasers are numerous and with advancing medical technologies and more researches in the pipeline to study and harness the full potential of lasers in the facial region, this can only mean well for both doctors and patients.

But as for everything, and this aspect is no exception, facial lasers do have their limitations and they cannot be used to replace conventional surgery totally. Some more invasive procedures do still require the conventional knife and surgery. What they offer though are options that would not have been available in the past years and some of these options are very beneficial to both doctor and patient.
