Would Lasik Be Right For You?
by: John Porter

For a person who had had visual deficiencies for years, regaining perfect vision was almost like a dream. But with the introduction of LASIK eye surgery that dream is now a reality. However, there are still things that one needs to consider before he or she can be sure if this surgery is an option for him or her. Such factors
would include age, physical activities, costs, risks and previous health issues. There can be conditions which might nullify your chance of undergoing a this surgery.

Age

For this operation to be performed one must be above 21 years of age. If someone is below 21 years, no matter how bad his or her condition is, the person wouldn't be considered ready by optometrists for this surgery.

Physical Activities

If you are a person who is into some kind of contact sports and your future depended on playing that sport, then this is definitely not an option for you. What you can however do is that you can wait till your career gets over and then undergo the operation. But once you decide on that, then there is no going back to the sport. Of course you can work as a commentator!

Costs

The average cost of this surgery comes to around $1800 for each eye. Now that is a lot of money, especially if it is a one-time investment. You will be very fortunate to have it covered by your insurance policy, cause most policies wouldn't. the other option is to avail various financial schemes where you pay the money over a period of years. So if you have to pay $4000 over 10 years then it becomes much more easier. Of course, it cannot be compared to costs of wearing glasses, but then again, you are getting back your normal vision.

Risks

This eye surgery comes with its own set of risks and they should always be considered seriously before you actually sign-up for an operation. Problems that might be caused due to surgery are double vision, glare, and halo. One's nighttime vision can also be affected, especially for certain operation procedures. Even permanent blurry vision and diminished contrast may be the effects of this operation. It is not implied that LASIK eye surgery is a high-risk operation. But you should know the facts beforehand.

If your surgery was manually made by the surgeon than the risk of you getting a problem afterwards might go up but the fact that it can be automated now the risks become rare and you can stay assured that the computer will be precise when it comes to fixing your eyes. Basically the wavefront lasik surgery is what most surgeons use these days and probably will suggest because it is the fastest, the safest and the most precise method for one who intends on correcting their vision. Of course there are more methods and you'll be surprised to know there are all good depending on your eye's condition.
